4 Months on Poshmark + Another Wardrobe Evaluation

Long time, no see everyone! Wow, Life has been kinda crazy and I just haven’t gotten around to actually putting a full blog post together lately. I have a lot of drafts with titles if that counts for anything 😉

But, today I am going to share with you my Project Closet Purge Progress due to discovering Poshmark just a few months ago!

I officially listed my first item for sale from my closet 4 months ago, today. And since then, I have sold 197 items and made over $1,300! I’m not in this for the money- most of my items sell for $10 and under, but I have found this to be a really liberating and fun hobby- and a great way to get rid of unused items!

Now, all the items were not mine- some were Jake’s, my brothers’, and my mom’s. But the majority were mine.

I’ve also purchased a lot of items with my credits as well but have been trying to stick to my 1 in 1 out rule. When I go to buy something, I do my best to make sure I have something I can list in my Poshmark closet for sale in exchange.

SO- let’s see how I did:

The Numbers:

  • Shoes: 48 (last time: 55)
  • Skirts: 35 (last time: 35)
  • Dresses: 33 (last time: 44)
  • Dress/Casual Pants: 24 (last time: 26)
  • Jeans: 14 (last time: 16)
  • Tops (including dressy tank tops): 101 (last time: 107)
  • Cardigans (including vest cardigans and cropped boleros): 24 (last time: 34)
  • Sweaters: 19 (last time: 26)
  • Jackets (including outerwear): 27 (last time: 25)

Well, what do you think? I didn’t do too bad if I do say so myself! I really purged in the dress and cardigan department and hey! I’m down below 50 pairs of shoes! HOLLA! hahaha

One thing I wish I would have been keeping track of was purses. Man, I have sold a lot of purses- and bought some too (hehe). Before Poshmark I didn’t even THINK about selling some of my favorite bags but for some reason- knowing I would get cash (posh credit to buy something I wanted more) almost immediately for the bags that had been collecting dust in my spare bedroom really allowed me to let go of my attachment to them. I have found that vintage Coach and really just Coach in general sells fast. As well as Kate Spade. I’ve sold a few Kate bags and I don’t think any of them were listed for more than 24 hours before they sold.

I think that shirts are the hardest thing to sell (for me at least). It’s like- everyone has shirts, ya know?

Some things I did find out that I did not know before about Poshmark:

  • You are not allowed to sell Nail Polish or anything in an aerosol can (USPS shipping regulations).
  • ALSO- in my last post, I mentioned makeup. At that time I did not realize it, but the makeup must be brand new. You are not supposed to buy or sell used makeup. I did purchase a few used items as well as sell a few, but will no longer do so.
  • You are also not supposed to sell household items. Poshmark is inteded for fashion and accessory items only- it’s not Craigslist.

Tips for selling I’ve learned so far:

  • Be thorough on your item description. Note flaws and stains.
  • List measurements because people will ask. If you just take the 2 seconds to measure the length of a dress and the waist laying flat- people will not dilly-dally as much on making a purchase because they aren’t sure if it will fit or not.
  • Take good pictures. You don’t have to be a professional, but take pictures by a window when the sun is out. Don’t take flash photos in a dark room at midnight. Ya know?

Well then, have you signed up for a Poshmark account yet?! It’s FREE. If you want to sell items all you have to do is download the app onto your phone and start listing! The buyer pays for shipping and the label is emailed straight to you. Once the buyer recieves and accepts their purchase, you get your money! It’s so easy!

Use code GKNYN when you sign up for a $5 credit towards your first Poshmark purchase!

I’ll wrap this post up with a few outfits I’ve put together with items I’ve purchased on Posh 🙂

I bought this cheetah print circle skirt on Posh and paired it with my thredUP jean jacket.

I bought this leather Madewell tote and J.Crew Pineapple tee and paired them with a white skirt that I scored at The Limited before they went out of business (moment of silence for one of my fave stores).

I purchased this orange J.Crew cardigan from the same Posh closet as the pineapple tee above and then this Nordstrom top is also one of my Posh buys. I think the orange in the detail on the top pairs nicely with the cardigan and doesn’t make it look too “Halloween”.

Until next time, keep on keeping on…

  1. EVERYONE on Instagram talks about Poshmark! lol I’ve never bought or sold from there before, but I have thought about selling some of my clothes there before. I just can’t get myself motivated to clean out my closet, take pics of everything, measure the clothes, post them, etc.! lol
