Catherine is a dear friend of mine and an excellent designer/crafter and fellow lover of all things sparkly!

Today we are meshing my fashion side with her design side to bring you a post on DIY Christmas Bling Sweaters! Woot Woot!

It’s gonna be so much fun so let’s get started… with out further adieu… Miss Catherine!:

Hello, it’s so great to be here! I’m honored that Taylor is sharing a little space of her very stylish corner of the web with little ol’ me. So who am I? Well, Taylor and I go wayyy back – to high school! Which is totally a lifetime ago it seems. When I was in my senior year college I launched my blog, Design and Curiosity, which focuses on fun DIY’s for the home as well interior trends. You may also recognize the name on the Modest Blondie blog for doing the logo and identity design. I absolutely love the blogging community and was so excited when, so many moons ago, Taylor told me she was launching a blog of her own! Although we live many, many miles away from each other now, blogging has brought us so much closer and it’s fun that I get to share all the exciting opportunities it brings with one of my dearest friends. When she asked if I wanted to collaborate on a DIY Christmas sweater I was like, Abso-lutely! DIY? Christmas? My name is all over this!

Christmas lights are one of my favorite parts of the Christmas season. When we were kids our parents would take us on drives to look at houses all decked out in festive colors. I really wanted to make a sweater that was fun and flashy (pun intended) so I channeled one of my favorite memories for inspiration. The best part – it’s so easy to make and you are guaranteed to get compliments!

Here’s what you’ll need:

Plain, light colored basic sweater, I got mine from H&M
Sequin string, you can find at local craft and fabric store
Mini lightbulb ornaments in variety of colors, also found at most craft stores
Hot glue gun
Needle and black thread

Total cost of this project is under $30 – could be less with coupons and if you thrift or get your sweater on clearance!

The process to bring it all together is pretty simple. Because it is a strand of lights, precision and straight lines aren’t an issue! I started from the bottom and hot glued the strand in an organic and loose kind of pattern, adding in some loops and wrapping around the sides and arms a bit. I opted for more of a ‘party in the front and business in the back’ mentality and focused on just decorating the front side.

Once the sequin strand was glued in place I sewed the mini ornaments onto the sweater. Using the needle and thread really assures that the ornaments won’t be falling off. And that’s pretty much it! What do you guys think? Would you make this sweater? It’s perfect for all of the holiday parties coming up!

It was so fun to share this with all of you and hope Taylor has me back real soon! 😉

Taylor’s Reindeer with Eyelashes Sweater:

SO, I got this idea from a little Pinterest search and decided to make my own version of a sweater you could buy at Forever 21. I hit up TJMaxx and bought this sleeveless, sparkly, brown turtleneck (I sized up and cut slits in the sides for a little bit looser look.) I wore this over a fitted tan sweater to keep in line with what I think a reindeer looks like 😉

I then purchased dollar store sequin ribbon in gold and red for the antlers, eyelashes, and signature rudolph nose 🙂

And then, honestly, I winged it. I laid out the antlers, took a picture of them with my phone so I could remember how I placed them, and then I hot glued them down!

  1. Aw, it looks like y’all had fun together! I am going to an ugly sweater contest this Christmas(I’ve actually never been to one before!) and I thought about buying one at a thrift store or something, but realized that making my own would be so much more fun! I’ve already finished it, and it really was fun creating my own!
