LuLaRoe Review: The Amelia Dress

Hello all! Today I want to share with you a review of the up and coming brand LuLaRoe. You may have seen this brand while scrolling through social media, or maybe you have been invited to a Facebook party in the past. It’s one of those brands like Mary Kay where individuals can work from home and host parties to sell product. So it’s not something you can just pick up at your local Kohl’s.

The clothing sold from LuLaRoe is unique and you are almost guaranteed to have one of a kind pieces because only so many dresses, tops, etc.. are made from each print of fabric. Once it is gone, it’s gone.

Well, I was invited to one of these facebook parties several weeks ago now and decided I would participate to help the virtual hostess out ;-). (I apologize to anyone that has sent me fb party request and I didn’t participate – these are not usually my thing- but clothes – ya know they speak to me. ha!)

Anita Podoji is the seller I bought my dress from. The link to her facebook page is below- she posts new inventory weekly and you can get more info there.

As I was looking through the inventory, the dresses caught my eye. The name of the type I liked is call ‘The Amelia’. My initial thought was that this would look good on any figure with it’s a-line cut and that’s just one reason why I thought my readers would love this.

These are the two I was torn between:

The blue one is an XS and the striped one is a Small. The sizing charts for their apparel are a bit vague, but Anita was so kind as to take some measurements for me on the lengths and waists.

I was using this chart from Mode-sty to try and determine which size to get: (You can see more charts like these in this post)

KneeLenght_large

Based on the measurements of the dresses, I was an XS in everything but the length. The length from shoulder to hem of the XS was 34 inches and 36 for the Small. I am a tad under 5’3″ and when I found out there was an exchange policy, I decided to go with the X-Small and if it was too short, I could exchange it.

TIP: Look up ‘The Amelia’ dress on Pinterest and see where the dresses fall on taller models. I did this and that was something that helped me decide on a size as well.

BUT- Lucky me, the length was perfect and I got to keep the blue and black rose print Amelia.

The print and colors of this dress allow it to be year-round appropriate. Here are several ways I can already think of to wear this dress:

  • It looks classy and elegant by it self and paired with a black or blue blazer.

  • It can be toned down with a jean jacket or by wearing fun shoes, like converse, with it.

–>LADIES- IT HAS POCKETS! 🙂 AND the exposed zipper is super chic and trendy 🙂

  • Just think how cute it will be come fall with a chunky knit scarf and brown riding boots! AHH YAY! haha – I’m excited just thinking about it!

The versatility of this dress is what makes the price point bearable. With shipping and taxes my Amelia cost me $73, but I’ve already worn it several times and I’m thinking this is going to be a great wedding guest dress 😉

Let me just rave for a quick minute about how COMFORTABLE this is. That is one of the things LuLaRoe prides themselves in and they are successful at it. I was a bit leery of the 98% Polyester fabric, but once I received the dress and saw how wrinkle-free and well made it was, I was very pleased.

Tip: Wear a half slip 😉

This dress also washed up very very nicely. Remember to hang dry – or you’ll be sad (that is also one of their motto’s, lol).

  1. I have a Nicole and like it. I like to wear it toned down a bit since my work/life is very casual, so I’ll wear it with Converse or with sandals and a jean jacket. Sometimes the patterns for LuLaRoe can be pretty crazy, so I waited until I found a black and white pattern I really liked.

Where is your leather tote from, I really like it!

    1. Hi Kate! I looked at the Nicole as well. It’s good to hear you like it! I agree about the prints. As you can see I went for the more classic/subtle ones when I was choosing rather than the colorful tribal prints. Love the jean jacket/converse combo. I’m sure that looks super cute with a black and white pattern!

My tote is actually from a Dress Barn Outlet store in PA! I got it for like $17. I was so excited because I’ve seen a lot of bloggers with similar totes and they are much more pricey- and it’s reversible! I think I’ve seen similar ones at Target- maybe check there! 🙂

      Thanks for reading!

    2. Do you mind telling me how long the Nicole is? I haven’t been able to locate a length measurement for it. Thank you!

      1. Hi Amber! I haven’t been able to find a definitive answer on length but what I’ve seen is that on a 5’3″ girl it hits below the knees and on a 5’5″ girl it hits at the knee maybe a bit lower. I hope this helps! If I get an update I will let you know!

  2. Help
I need to know the waist in inches of an Amelia dress and the Amelia dress length from center back to hem in a size medium. I wear a size 4 at Christopher and Banks but not at other stores.

  3. I found the Amelia to run either slightly to very small depending on what a Lula large actually is. One chart says an Amelia large is a 12-14 another 14-16. I wear a 12 and like stuff to fit without feeling tight or looking too shapeless. Read another blog where a size ten to twelve woman crammed herself into a small that was supposedly one size too small than her usual size medium which she said fit a ten to twelve and claimed it fit, I felt sorry for that zipper, then showed her supposed actual size medium that didn’t seem that flattering either, then put on a size large, one size bigger than her normal size and I thought that looked best on her. Based on that I went with a large. The arm band is a bit tight and I would have liked a quarter inch more room in the waist. The skirt makes my butt look like the broad side of a barn. So if a large is a twelve to fourteen, it runs smallish for a twelve and small for a fourteen, but if it is a fourteen to sixteen then it runs one full size too small as a fourteen to sixteen should be too big on me.
