^^This is just the stuff I consigned. I donated 5 large bags as well.

Here is a highlight of major things I got rid of:

-5 pairs of Boots.

I invested in two pair of leather riding boots on the New Years Day Dillard’s sale. A pair of black and a pair of brown. I consigned my others and the pair of booties that I just purchased in August were unfortunately the MOST uncomfortable pair of boots ever and I decided to consign them. I’ve made up in my mind that there will be no more rash online or in store purchases. Comfort and quality are my new standards, even if it takes longer to find and save up for the items.

-Neutral Items

Anything with yellow stains under the arms or makeup stains around the neckline are history.

-Black items

You know when you put on black pants and in certain lights they almost look green (ew). That means their time has come. They are faded beyond repair. It’s time to let them go. And I did.

-Workout wear

Because I don’t need every High School running shirt I ever accumulated. I kept long sleeve cottons and key shirts I run in and a few nostalgic shirts (concert tees) and donated the rest!

-Duplicates

I had two pink plaid button ups. One had a blue stripe in it so it went with less things. I pitched that one and kept the simpler more versatile one. I tried to follow suit on other things like this.

-Certain Prints

Some prints I had were a bit on the little girl side. I even parted with several leopard print tops because I finally admitted to myself that they weren’t as sophisticated as I had tried to convince myself they were.

Things I’m currently on the hunt for:

Purging allowed me to get an idea of what I don’t have and some things I’d like to purchase.

-A black cardigan to end all black cardigans because I’m hoarding a few until I find the perfect one (or two).

-A white blouse because mine is on it’s last legs and it’s always a good idea to have a backup when you have well water. Just Sayin’.

…The Numbers…

These counts don’t include athletic clothes (except shoes) and is my whole wardrobe minus what is in the dirty laundry. It is including all seasons. With a closet like mine I have no excuse for not fitting everything in one spot. Just my own opinion. If you’re working with a smaller space by all means improvise and swap out in the spring and fall.

Shoes: 56 (originally 67)

Skirts: 46 (originally 49)

Dresses: 42 (originally 51)

Dress/casual Pants: 23

Jeans (including jean capris): 17

Tops: 112

Cardigans: 29

Sweaters: 17

Jackets: 17

Ok. So I’m not telling you all this to be like look at all the stuff I have guys!! I want to get it down on virtual paper so I can look at it and say why on earth do I have 29…29! cardigans?! I only have two arms!!

I’m still walking in my closet and trying to find things to get rid of. So if you see something that shouldn’t be seen in a closet, by all means tell me. Do you have any tips or tricks for narrowing down what you wear or don’t? Did anyone else count? I’d love to compare numbers- not for competitions sake but to see if I’m completely insane or only slightly 😉

A Couple of Tips for a Happier Closet Space:

-Buy matching hangers

This can get expensive, so maybe do it in waves. But you will LOVE having all the same hangers. It’s magical.

-Color Coordinate

Seriously, life is so much easier that way. This also help eliminate duplicates.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my walk through my closet purge and that if you haven’t in a while, you can declutter and de-stress your wardrobe!!!

Thanks for reading!!!

Keep on keeping on.

  1. I’ve been wanting to take an inventory of my closet and this was just motivation I needed to get it done! Here are my numbers:
    Shoes: 17 Tops: 74
    Skirts: 78 Cardigans: 32
    Dresses: 11 Sweaters: 12
    Jackets: 18
    Pants/Jeans: 0 (I don’t wear them for modesty reasons)

  2. Way to go!! I love watching other people clean out their closets, haha. My husband and I majorly downsized our belongings last year, and I got rid of everything I couldn’t style modestly so keep that in mind with these numbers:
    Shoes: 23
    Skirts: 9
    Dresses: 5
    Pants/shorts: 8
    Jeans: 2
    T-shirts: 15, Blouses: 20, Tunics: 10 (45 total tops)
    Cardigans: 10
    Vests: 2
    Sweaters: 9
    Heavy coats: 3

  3. YAY for closet purging! I frequently go through my closet using almost the exact tips you mentioned.

Matching hangers are such a good idea! I have them and love them!

I’m also glad to hear you mention colour coordinating because that’s what I do and some people think it’s weird, haha!
