Modest Holiday Outfit Inspiration

I’m probably a little bit late on the holiday outfit inspiration post, but for me, I always feel like the day comes and I’m like what on earth am I gonna wear?! So hopefully this will help you out a little bit when you’re standing in your closet racking your brain for something cute, yet not over the top, yet stretchy in every way possible because pie. Just. Pie. We also don’t want to have to purchase a one time deal outfit that we will never wear again, so my inspiration is going to consist of simple items that hopefully you already have a few of and can tweak a bit to fit your needs. (I seriously had to discipline myself on not buying super cheesy one-time-wear sweaters this year. I was successful but if you caved a bit, no judgement here.)

OK. So I’m thinking I will cover all the bases with the categories Sparkly, Casual, and Comfy. If you have more leave me comments because I’m sure your idears will help!

I put these outfits together on Polyvore… never used it, but I have a bad feeling I’m now hooked… (Disclaimer: I did not pay attention to price when I added the items to each of these outfits. I simply searched for items I have similar of and threw them together, so don’t be apalled at some of the prices. I have much cheaper versions. hehe)

Sparkly

A black pair of jeans is like the modest LBD of pantaloons. I have a pair I bought for $10 at the LOFT outlet on my honeymoon but they are a little more snug than I like so I stick to wearing tunics and shirt dresses with them. I have turtlenecks in all the neutral colors and they are an easy timeless go to when you want to bring attention to a necklace and still be modest. The shiny blazer is a fun piece that gets worn seldom but is always a hit and a pair of black flats should be on everyone’s shoe rack at home. (If you have this pair that says ‘Yes Please’ on them I am a little jelly.)

Casual

I love my LOFT brand wine colored corduroy pants from thredup and they definitely scream happy holidays! A chambray shirt dress or tunic is appropriate always (and look, you can even get monogrammed ones on Etsy- so cute!). I have a vintage Coach bucket bag similar to this one that I picked up for $39 at a consignment shop. You could fit a lot of pie in there. Just saying. I don’t have brown flats. Woah. If I ever allow myself in DSW again… maybe I’ll find some.

Comfy

A maxi skirt with leggings underneath screams comfort and couch cuddling. If you are going for a simple, cute, comfortable look this holiday, throw on a maxi skirt, your favorite holiday cotton tee, and a pair of modern boots. You can get the hat pictured here on modli.com.

I hope that this has been helpful and that your focus this holiday is on family, friends, and that pie over there… instead of what you will wear. Also keep in mind those less fortunate and friends that don’t have family to surround them this season. Send them a card or say a few kind words to them. You don’t know how much you can brighten their day.

Total Aside: I’ve subscribed to ‘Happy Mail’ by A Beautiful Mess. It costs $15 a month and I get a package of $50+ worth of greeting cards sent to me each month. It gets me motivated to send cards more and it is SO fun! Check it out!

Happy Holidays, everyone!!

Keep on keeping on.

  1. Don’t feel bad about the late holiday inspiration. I had planned to post four Christmas outfits last week, but I just put up the third one yesterday. Haha, whoops.
I like the last outfit–super cute.
    Have a merry Christmas!
