My first post ever: A rave about the Dreaming in Pink Boutique Pink Striped Skirt

First off, thanks for taking a moment to stop by my new blog. I am SO excited to get things rolling and start posting about modest fashion. I hope you find this blog encouraging and uplifting in the fact that you can be an in-style and modestly dressed woman in today’s world of mini skirts and crop tops. If you haven’t already, please take a look at my ‘About Me’ page. I want to get to know you as my readers and I want you to know why I am here and where I am coming from. 🙂

I love making things pretty. I am such a sucker for pretty much anything that has cheetah print on it and will most likely buy it purely based on that fact. I also love pink. It is my favorite color and apparently I wore pink for the entire first year of my life so it kind of makes sense. (Before you stop reading my blog altogether, I promise you I don’t still wear only pink and I keep the cheetah print classy.)

But going with the pink trend for my first post…

Today I want to rave about the Dreaming in Pink Boutique (I don’t find it ironic that I liked everything on this site). Anyways, I just had the most lovely experience with ordering the Pink Striped Skirt and have to say that I am totally obsessed! I was first drawn to their site via Modest-Style’s blog post about it. I followed this trail further once I saw that the skirt was only $19.99!!! What?!

I got my skirt just 3 days after I placed my order and the following Sunday I wore it to church. It is such a comfy skirt that you could wear it all day and stay happy as a lark. The shape of this skirt will work for all body types. (Get used to hearing me talk about how awesome A-line skirts and dresses are. I plan to prove how flattering they are on all shapes and sizes.) I’m usually not a fan of elastic waist bands (I try to go for a zipper that is centered in the back of a skirt if I can help it) but this I like. I also love that this skirt can transition into the autumn months. I went a little bold and wore it with a pink checkered top from the J.Crew Outlet. It gives it that lumberjack cold fall morning feel (if that is a thing); Throw on a jean jacket and you’re good to go! It makes me ecstatic that mixing prints is now an acceptable style. Not that it would have stopped me from wearing said combo, but it makes me feel like I am somewhat fashion forward and it definitely makes a classy statement.

I finished my look with gold slide wedges from T.J. Maxx, some gold-ish pearl costume jewelry, and a trendy patterned ‘Hello Sunshine’ clutch from Kohl’s. You could also easily pair this with a neutral flat for a more casual on-the-go look! (Seriously, this skirt is so comfy.)

Something to consider: I definitely recommend a full slip with this outfit. Especially if you pair it with a button down. It makes your undergarments less bulky than a half slip and let’s you be worry free that your skirt is not see-through. I plan to write a post on undergarments, because I truly believe that starting your outfit off with the right undergarments puts your best foot forward at being modestly dressed. I usually find my slips at thrift stores- Mostly because I have a hard time paying more than $5 for something no one will ever see. But I also plan to research other sources for such things.

For my next post I want to talk about the direction and principles I would like this blog (and my own personal style) to be based on. I’ll talk about some of the main reasons I started this blog and hopefully shed some more light on how to dress modestly, fashionably, and on a budget!

Until next time, keep on keeping on.
